Get your quilt professionally longarmed at Mad B's Quilt and Sew
We would love to help you with starting the final steps of your quilt on our longarm quilting machines!
Before bringing in your quilt top, batting and backing, please check the following:
- Your quilt top should be trimmed, stray threads removed, and squared as much as possible (no loose edges or extra length on your borders)
- Mark the quilt top and the backing if they are directional. Using a post it or colored piece of paper is easiest for us to see.
- The quilt backing must be 8" wider and 8" longer than the quilt top, meaning 4" extra on all 4 sides of the quilt.
- For a pieced backing, make sure it is pieced at 1/2" seam allowance instead of 1/4" and press seams OPEN.
- Remove selvages from backing.
- Make sure both the quilt top and backing are lint rolled and pressed as much as possible.
What is the turnaround time and price for longarm quilting?
- Our longarm quilting service queue is usually at about 3-4 weeks, but this can vary depending on how many quilts come in to us in a day.
- Longarm pricing is based on the length and width of your quilt at $.025/sq inch.
- The quilting minimum cost is $35. So if the length x width x .025 does not equal $35, the total will be $35.
Extra fees will incur for:
- Pieced backs with more than one seam or any centering that needs to be done for the backing of the quilt
- Getting your back pieced by the Mad B's longarm team (usually when you buy fabric that is not 108" wide)
- Quilting to be done on Cuddle or Minky fabric
- If leaders need to be added to the quilt to load onto machine
Additional Information:
- When you come in, you will be able to pick any edge to edge quilting design from our library.
- You will also be able to pick your thread color and quilting density.
- If you prefer to leave these choices up to the quilters, you are able to ask the quilters to make a choice when they put your quilt on the machine.
- We do not do custom quilting, but can refer you to local people who do offer custom quilting.
- We do not trim or bind your quilt, but can refer you to people who offer binding as a service.
Need your quilt shipped?
- We get a lot of winter visitors here so we understand if you end up needing to go back home while your quilt is still in queue. We are happy to ship your quilt to you through FedEx or USPS to anywhere in the United States. Just let us know if you need that service and we can help you to calculate shipping cost once the quilt is done.
